Sphingomonas
paucimobilis Sphingomonas paucimobilis is a Gram-negative, non-spore forming, rod-shaped, motile bacteria species belonging to the phylum Proteobacteria. It is widely distributed in soil, water, and sewage, and is usually found in aerobic environments. Its significance lies in its ability to degrade organic pollutants, as it has been reported as capable of utilising a variety of organic compounds as a carbon and energy source. This has made Sphingomonas paucimobilis an important tool in bioremediation, as it can be used to cleanse contaminated sites from hazardous substances. Further studies have focused on the potential of S. paucimobilis to produce useful compounds, such as bio-based solvents, that could be used for industrial and environmental applications. As such, this bacterium is a promising tool for sustainable development and environmental protection.
