Polyketides
Polyketides are chemical compounds composed of multiple repeating units of an organic substance. They play an important role in biological processes and are widely used in medicine and agriculture. In medicine, polyketides are used as antibiotics, antifungals, and anticancer agents. In agriculture, polyketides are used as pesticides and plant growth promoters. They are also used in the production of some food additives, flavors, fragrances, and cosmetics. Polyketides are synthesized by bacteria and fungi, and they play a role in the natural chemical defense mechanisms of these organisms. As the demand for polyketide-based medicines continues to increase, research into their synthesis and molecular structure is ongoing.
