Pcsk9
PCSK9 (Proprotein Convertase Subtilisin/Kexin Type 9) is a liver enzyme that plays an important role in regulating cholesterol levels in the body. It works by binding to low-density lipoprotein (LDL) receptors, allowing the body to remove LDL cholesterol from the bloodstream. High levels of PCSK9 have been linked to an increased risk of heart disease, and drugs that target this enzyme have been developed to reduce cholesterol levels and thus reduce the risk of heart disease. By blocking the action of PCSK9, these drugs have been found to reduce LDL cholesterol levels by up to 60%, reducing the risk of heart disease and stroke. As such, PCSK9 inhibitors are seen as an important tool in the fight against cardiovascular disease.
