Lipogenesis
Lipogenesis is a biological process which involves the production of fat molecules (lipids) from the metabolism of carbohydrates and other nutrients. It is a vital metabolic process which enables organisms to store energy, maintain cell membrane integrity and produce hormones which regulate various physiological processes in the body. In humans, lipogenesis is primarily regulated by insulin and plays an important role in the processes of weight and energy management. The excessive production of lipids from lipogenesis has been linked to metabolic diseases such as obesity and type 2 diabetes. Therefore, it is important to understand and regulate lipogenesis for the prevention and treatment of these conditions.
