Lipidome
The lipidome refers to the complete, dynamic collection of all lipids (fat-like molecules) in an organism. Lipids, including sterols and fatty acids, are crucial for metabolism, energy storage, insulation, and cell signaling. Consequently, the lipidome plays a major role in many processes within the body ranging from inflammation to immunity, and even plays a role in chronic diseases such as cancer and cardiovascular disease. Elucidating the lipidome is important in understanding how lipids interact with each other in order to better diagnose and treat diseases.
