Prokaryotes
Prokaryotes are a type of single-celled microorganisms. They are the most abundant and diverse organisms on the Earth and play a key role in sustaining life. Prokaryotes are essential to the global ecosystem, functioning as decomposers of organic material, synthesizing essential vitamins, and forming symbiotic relationships with other species. They are also important in industrial and medical fields, being used in the production of foods, antibiotics, and other products. Prokaryotes are significant in that they occupy virtually every niche of the planet and are the evolutionary ancestors of more advanced forms of life.
