Climatology

Climatology is the scientific study of the atmosphere and climate related phenomena, such as temperature, precipitation, and wind. It covers the Earth's natural climate system, and its variability over time, space and geological history. Climatology is critical for understanding and predicting the effects of global climate change, and for developing strategies for mitigating and adapting to these changes. It also plays a role in delineating trends in the weather, providing information to farmers and those working in natural resource management and civil engineering. In addition, meteorologists use climatological data to model future climate scenarios, in order to predict more accurately future shifts in temperature, precipitation, and other variables.
