Vascular Medicine
Vascular medicine is a medical specialty that focuses on the diagnosis and management of diseases of the vascular system which includes the arteries, veins, and lymphatic vessels. It is an important and growing field in medicine, due to its relevance to many common medical conditions and preventive strategies. Vascular medicine also focuses on the prevention, diagnosis and management of vascular diseases, such as deep vein thrombosis, carotid artery disease, arterial aneurysms, and peripheral artery disease. It also encompasses the management of other conditions like vascular malformations, varicose veins, and limb ischemia. Although vascular medicine is a relatively new specialty, its importance is growing, as vascular diseases are a major cause of mortality and morbidity. Through diagnosis and minimally invasive treatments, vascular medicine offers many patients the opportunity to reduce their risk of stroke, heart attack and other cardiovascular-related conditions.
