Prostaglandin

Prostaglandins are small molecules synthesized from fatty acids. They are produced inside cells and are released into the body to profoundly affect a wide range of physiological processes. Prostaglandins act as local hormones, influencing the surrounding system and following a wide variety of functions. They play a role in inflammation, contraction and relaxation of tissues, regulation of blood flow, modulation of cell growth and differentiation, embryogenesis, and many other processes relevant to human health. Prostaglandins have a wide range of medical applications, from controlling pain and inflammation to increasing uterine contractions and protecting the kidneys. They are also used in research, agriculture, and even food preservation.
