Pneumonitis

Pneumonitis is a type of lung inflammation caused by an injury to the lung tissue. The injury may be caused by an infection, inhalation of a foreign substance, or radiation therapy. Symptoms of pneumonitis include difficulty breathing, coughing, chest tightness, and fever. Treatment depends on the cause of the pneumonitis but may include antibiotics, inhaled medicines, or corticosteroids. Pneumonitis is an important condition that should be promptly diagnosed and treated because if it is left untreated it can result in severe lung damage and even death. Early recognition, diagnosis, and treatment of pneumonitis can help prevent serious complications.
