Myelitis

Myelitis is an inflammation of the spinal cord that affects the myelin sheath - a protective layer of fat and protein surrounding the nerves. It is a rare disorder that can cause pain, numbness, weakness, and paralysis in one or more limbs. Myelitis can be caused by a number of illnesses, such as viral infections, autoimmune diseases, and toxins, or it may be the result of a traumatic spinal injury. Treatment typically includes medication and physical therapy, and in cases of severe paralysis, surgery or stem cell therapy may be necessary. By understanding myelitis and its potential causes, we can discover more effective treatment options and help improve the quality of life for those affected.
