Inflammasomes

Inflammasomes are large protein complexes that play a critical role in the body’s inflammatory response. They act as a type of “cellular alarm system” and can be activated by a variety of external and internal triggers, such as infection, tissue damage, and environmental toxins. Once activated, inflammasomes trigger the release of inflammatory cytokines and other compounds that help the body respond to and combat the threat. As a result, inflammasomes play an important role in the body’s innate immune system and have been linked to a variety of conditions, including chronic inflammation and inflammatory diseases.
