Hashimoto s Disease
Hashimoto’s Disease is an autoimmune disorder, where the immune system mistakenly attacks the thyroid gland. It is a common cause of hypothyroidism, which is when the thyroid does not produce enough hormones. Symptoms of Hashimoto’s Disease can include fatigue, sensitivity to cold, muscle weakness, loss of hair, dry skin and hoarse voice. Treatment typically involves taking synthetic thyroid hormones to replace the hormones that are not produced by the thyroid. This can improve the symptoms and prevent further damage to the thyroid. Hashimoto’s Disease is important to be aware of and screened for, as it is one of the most common thyroid disorders and can be managed with proper treatment.
