External Otitis
External Otitis is an infection of the external auditory canal, the outside of the ear, caused by bacteria or fungus. It is a common condition and is known as swimmer's ear. External Otitis is very painful and can be accompanied by inflammation, itching, discharge, and a feeling of fullness in the ear. If left untreated, it can lead to hearing loss. Treatment for External Otitis includes antibiotics, antifungal medications, and cleaning the ear with a mild solution. Pain relief medications are also used to help. It is important to treat External Otitis promptly to reduce the risk of further complications. Early recognition and treatment is key to have a successful outcome.
