Erythromycin

Erythromycin is an antibiotic of the macrolide family used in the treatment of a wide range of bacterial infections. It is effective in treating many types of infections caused by bacteria, including bronchitis, pneumonia, skin and soft tissue infections, and chlamydia. It is also used to prevent bacterial endocarditis in certain high-risk individuals prior to dental or surgical procedures. Erythromycin is generally well tolerated and has few known side effects. Its utility as an antibiotic makes erythromycin an important weapon against infectious diseases.
