Eosinophils
Eosinophils are one of the white blood cells of the immune system, produced and stored in the bone marrow. They play an essential role in defending the body from infections, allergies, and other diseases. Eosinophils are released into the bloodstream and migrate to sites of infection or inflammation in order to fight foreign pathogens, allergens, and other harmful invaders. They release chemicals and enzymes to break down the invaders or boost the immune system. Eosinophils can also play a role in some autoimmune diseases. High or low levels of eosinophils can be an indicator of infection, allergies, or cancer.
