Dermatology is a medical specialty devoted to the diagnosis and treatment of diseases affecting the skin, hair, nails, and mucous membranes. It involves a comprehensive understanding of the structure, physiology, and pathophysiology of these tissues, as well as specific knowledge of the latest medical treatments. Dermatologists also often provide preventive care, educating patients on proper skin care and helping to identify suspicious moles and lesions in order to diagnose skin cancer early on. Treatment often includes both medical and surgical methods, depending on the severity and type of the condition. Dermatologists are essential in providing quality care for those suffering from a variety of skin disorders, including acne, psoriasis, eczema, and melanoma.
