Cytotoxins
Cytotoxins are toxins that are capable of causing damage to cells, often leading to cell death. They are produced both naturally and synthetically, and can be either endogenous or exogenous. Their primary purpose is to modify or destroy cells in the body, making them important tools in medical and scientific research. In a clinical setting, cytotoxins are used to treat cancer and autoimmune diseases, as well as to induce immunosuppression for organ transplantation. In a laboratory setting, they are often used in experiments to elucidate mechanisms of action or to determine the effects of compounds on cells. Thus, cytotoxins have many important applications and are essential in both clinical and research settings.
