Cholelithiasis
Cholelithiasis is a medical condition where stones form inside the gallbladder. It is caused by a build-up of cholesterol and bilirubin in the gallbladder, forming hardened deposits known as gallstones. These gallstones can cause abdominal pain, nausea and vomiting, and can even block the bile duct that leads out of the gallbladder. Treatment is usually through medication or surgery, depending on the severity of the condition. Cholelithiasis can lead to other complications such as jaundice, pancreatitis and even sepsis. Early diagnosis is paramount in order to avoid long-term consequences.
