Ankylosing Spondylitis

Ankylosing Spondylitis (AS) is a chronic, autoimmune disease of the musculoskeletal system. It is characterized by inflammation of the joints (spondylitis) and vertebrae, leading to the fusion of the spine and a loss of flexibility. This can cause significant pain, stiffness and deformity. AS can also affect other body systems and organs, such as the eyes, heart and lungs. Diagnosis and treatment of AS can involve a variety of medical treatments, including anti-inflammatory medications and physical therapy. Early diagnosis and treatment is important for managing symptoms and improving quality of life for people living with AS.
