Adipokines
Adipokines are hormones and cytokines which are produced exclusively by adipose tissue (body fat). They have important functions in regulating glucose and lipid metabolism, as well as inflammation and immunity. Adipokines play crucial roles in obesity-related disorders such as type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular diseases, hypertension, and cancer. By understanding the molecular mechanisms of adipokines, researchers may be able to develop new treatments for these diseases.
