Shigellosis

Shigellosis is an infectious disease caused by the Shigella bacteria. It is a common cause of stomach and intestinal infections, especially among young children. Symptoms of shigellosis include diarrhea, fever, abdominal pain, and in some cases, blood and mucus in the stool. Treatment with antibiotics is usually effective in clearing up the infection. In areas with poor sanitation, shigellosis can spread quickly and is a public health concern. Vaccines are available to reduce the risk of shigellosis and its complications.
