Influenza Related Illness/influenza Virus
Influenza, commonly known as the flu, is a highly contagious respiratory illness caused by a virus. Symptoms include fever, sore throat, cough, chills, body aches, headache, and fatigue. The virus is spread through coughing, sneezing, or contact with saliva or mucus from an infected person. Vaccination is the best way to protect yourself and others from influenza; however, antiviral medications may be used to reduce the severity and duration of the illness if taken soon after symptoms appear. Influenza can lead to severe complications such as pneumonia, bronchitis, and hospitalizations, especially in children, the elderly, and people with weakened immune systems. It is important to take preventive measures to protect yourself and your family from influenza-related illnesses.
