Infectious Diseases Antimicrobials and Drug Resistance
Infectious diseases antimicrobials and drug resistance are an important issue in health care today. These drugs are critical in treating bacterial, fungal and protozoal infections, as well as some cancer types. Drug resistance occurs when a microorganism can survive and still reproduce even when exposed to a specific drug, meaning the drug no longer has any effect on the microorganism. This is a global health concern because it increases the length of time and expense of treatment, decreases the effectiveness of treatments, and increases the risk of death due to novel and more resistant strains of infections. To address this, it is important to understand the underlying mechanisms of drug resistance, explore novel therapeutic strategies, and develop better treatments and preventative measures to improve the health of individuals worldwide.
