Infectious Disease Surveillance
Infectious disease surveillance is the systematic collection, analysis, interpretation, and dissemination of data regarding infectious agents, the people affected, and the associated risk factors. This information is used to identify, investigate, and monitor the occurrence, spread, and control of infectious diseases in a population. This is an important tool used by public health professionals to detect and respond to existing and emerging infectious diseases. Surveillance helps inform the public of the current risk, and can also be used to target areas for preventive health measures, health promotion, and healthcare resource allocation.
