Immunizations
Immunizations, or vaccinated, are a medical procedure utilized to help protect humans from certain communicable diseases. Immunizations work by introducing small, weakened forms of a disease-causing organism into the body which induces an immune response. This response helps the body to create antibodies to fight against the disease if the individual is ever exposed to it in the future. Immunizations have been instrumental in reducing the prevalence of life-threatening diseases such as polio, tetanus and measles in many regions of the world. Immunizations are especially important for infants and children, however adults also need to stay up-to-date on immunizations to maintain optimal health.
