Cryptosporidiosis
Cryptosporidiosis is a diarrheal disease caused by the parasite Cryptosporidium. It is a common cause of waterborne disease and is particularly dangerous to children and people with weakened immune systems. Symptoms of cryptosporidiosis include watery diarrhea, stomach cramps, nausea, and dehydration. The parasite is found in contaminated food and water, and is spread through contact with an infected person or animal. Treatment of cryptosporidiosis typically involves increasing fluid intake to prevent dehydration and medications to reduce the symptoms. Prevention is largely dependent on proper hygiene and sanitary measures. Boiling contaminated drinking water, avoiding contact with infected persons, and good hand hygiene are key to preventing the spread of the disease.
