Clonorchiasis

Clonorchiasis is a parasitic disease caused by the ingestion of food or water infected with a type of flatworm called Clonorchis sinensis. This disease is of great concern in parts of Asia, as it can cause inflammation of the liver, gallbladder, and bile ducts. Symptoms include abdominal pain, jaundice, fever, and biliary colic. If left untreated, it can lead to cholangitis and even bile duct cancer. Treatment includes a combination of anti-parasitic drugs and surgery to remove the worms or gallbladder. Clonorchiasis is a preventable disease by avoiding the consumption of raw or undercooked fish and the proper proper disposal of sewage.
