Production of Hydrocarbons
Hydrocarbons are organic compounds composed of hydrogen and carbon atoms that are the main component of petroleum and natural gas. These molecules are used in the production of fuels such as gasoline, diesel, and jet fuel; as well as in making a broad range of products including plastics, synthetic fibers, rubbers, and solvents. Petroleum and natural gas are produced from underground reservoirs by extracting, refining, and transporting these hydrocarbons. Hydrocarbons are an important part of the global economy, providing energy and materials to power and build our modern life.
