Organic Geochemistry

Organic geochemistry is a field of study that examines the chemical and biological components of organic matter. It focuses on understanding the processes that control the production, transformation, distribution, and fate of organic material in soil, oceans, and other geological systems. It can provide insight into the paleoenvironment of Earth, evolution of climate and ecosystems, and the origin and composition of fossil fuels. Organic geochemistry is an important tool for understanding biogeochemical cycles, for oil and gas exploration, and for assessing environmental pollution in soils and water.
