Oil Shale Technology
Oil shale technology is a method of exploiting the energy contained in sedimentary rocks rich in organic matter. By extracting the organic content of oil shale and heating it in the absence of oxygen, a form of synthetic oil – known as shale oil – can be produced. The technology has multiple uses, including as a source of energy and as a feedstock for the production of chemicals, hydrocarbons and petroleum products. It also offers a potential alternative to traditional oil and gas extraction, allowing increased access to domestic energy resources and reduced dependence on imports. The improved efficiency and cost-effectiveness of oil shale technology has the potential to revolutionise the energy industry and contribute to global sustainability.
