Marine Microbiology
Marine microbiology is the study of microorganisms that inhabit oceans, seas, and other marine ecosystems. These microorganisms are of great importance as they play a major role in global biogeochemical cycles, nutrient cycling, and oceanic primary productivity. They are also responsible for the production of many important substances such as pharmaceuticals, enzymes, and natural products. Marine microbiology allows us to understand the role of these microorganisms in marine physiology and ecology, as well as their effect on climate change, ocean acidification, and aquaculture. Moreover, the study of marine microbiology is critical in the development of new technologies for the exploration and conservation of marine life.
