Ancient Sediments and Petroleums
Ancient sediments and petroleums are organic-rich rocks that are formed from the decomposition and transformation of ancient organic materials, such as plants, animals and microorganisms. These materials are found in sedimentary rocks, such as shale, siltstone and sandstone, and in petroleum reservoirs. The ancient sediments and petroleums provide vital information about the geological history of the earth, as well as our understanding of global climate change. They can also be used to help identify petroleum reservoirs and other mineral deposits, which can be tapped for energy sources and other resources.
