Serine Proteases

Serine proteases are a type of enzyme that uses a serine amino acid residue at its active site to break the peptide bonds of proteins. They are involved in a wide variety of biological processes, including digestion, blood clotting, and antiviral immunity, making them essential for human health. Additionally, they are increasingly used in biotechnological applications, contributing to the production of therapeutic drugs, diagnostics, and bioremediation. Serine proteases are thus playing an increasingly large role in proteomics research and the development of new therapies.
