Prosthetics
Prosthetics is the science and technology of designing, manufacturing, and fitting prostheses to replace missing or lost body parts. Prosthetic limbs are used to help restore mobility and independence for those with amputations or physical disabilities. Surgeons, orthopedists, and other healthcare professionals use modern advances in materials, engineering, and manufacturing to develop custom-made prostheses that allow individuals with these conditions to enjoy their lives with improved comfort and confidence. Prosthetics also have the potential to be used for eliminating or reducing debilitating chronic pain, aiding stroke victims with physical therapy, and enabling people with paralysis to regain control of their bodies. Prosthetics have become more advanced and personalized in recent years, and technological developments show no signs of abating as prosthetics become ever more sophisticated to improve the quality of life and mobility of people with physical disabilities.
