Ilium

Ilium is the uppermost portion of the hip bone in humans. It is a flat triangular bone that consists of three sections: the ala, the body, and the crest. The ilium forms the socket of the hip joint and has several important attachments for muscles, ligaments, and tendons. The socket is also important for transmitting load from the trunk to the lower limbs, providing stability and balance when standing. The ilium is thus significant for everyday activities, such as walking and running, and for playing sports and engaging in other physical activities.
