Fourth Ventricle
The fourth ventricle is a cavity in the brain that is part of the ventricular system. It is located between the two cerebral hemispheres and the brainstem. It is filled with cerebrospinal fluid which acts as a cushion between the brain and the skull. It is important for the functioning of the brain since it provides fluid flow to various regions of the brain, as well as nutrients, hormones, and other biochemical molecules. It also helps to protect the brain from trauma and disease by draining away any excess fluid. The fourth ventricle has many uses in medical imaging and surgery, as it can be used to diagnose conditions such as hydrocephalus, tumors, and other neurological disorders. Its presence can also be useful for surgeons who need to perform procedures deep within the brain.
