Corpus Callosum

The corpus callosum is an area of the brain that is made up of a large bundle of nerve fibers and connects the left and right sides of the brain. It allows for the communication between the two sides of the brain and is critical for higher level functioning. It is important for cognitive development, including language, motor control, and sensory processing. Damage to the corpus callosum may lead to impaired communication between the two sides of the brain, resulting in a range of cognitive deficits. In addition to its importance for cognitive functioning, the corpus callosum is also important for the treatment of certain neurological conditions, including epilepsy and autism.
