Bronchodilators

Bronchodilators are medications which are used to open up the airways of the lungs, allowing for improved breathing. These medications are used to treat respiratory conditions such as asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), and are considered to be first-line treatment for many of these conditions. Bronchodilators work by relaxing constricted airways, allowing for improved air flow and a decrease in breathlessness. They can also reduce inflammation in the airways, reducing the likelihood of bronchospasm attacks. The use of bronchodilators can help to reduce symptoms such as wheezing, chest tightness and coughing, improve a patient's quality of life and decrease the need for hospitalization.
