Bronchiolitis
Bronchiolitis is a respiratory infection caused by viruses, most commonly the respiratory syncytial virus (RSV). It affects the bronchioles, the small airways of the lungs, leading to inflammation and blockage of the airways. Symptoms of bronchiolitis include coughing, difficulty breathing, wheezing, and fever. Bronchiolitis can cause severe breathing problems in infants, and it is especially dangerous in premature babies and infants with underlying health conditions. Treatment usually involves oxygen therapy, nebulized medications, and supportive care. Prevention includes thorough handwashing, avoiding contact with people who are sick, and getting immunized for RSV.
