Barrett s Esophagus

Barrett's Esophagus is a condition in which the cells in the lower part of the esophagus are replaced by abnormal cells, typically due to acid reflux. This condition is potentially serious as it can increase the risk of developing further diseases, including esophageal cancer. As such, it is important for doctors to diagnose this condition as early as possible to limit the risk of further harm. Treatment is usually focused on controlling the reflux and can include medications, lifestyle changes and endoscopic therapy. With early diagnosis and correct treatment, the progression of Barrett's Esophagus can be slowed or prevented.
