Sudden Cardiac Arrest
Sudden cardiac arrest (SCA) is a life-threatening medical emergency that occurs when the heart suddenly stops beating. Without immediate medical attention, the victim’s chance of survival drops rapidly. SCA can be caused by a variety of conditions including underlying heart disease or medical conditions, and can also be caused by an electrical abnormality in the heart. It can happen to anyone, regardless of age or physical condition. Treatment for SCA includes immediate medical attention via CPR and the use of an automated external defibrillator (AED). If administered correctly, SCA can be effectively managed and treated, leading to a greater chance of survival.
