Ischaemia
Ischaemia is an inadequate blood supply to an organ or tissue due to obstruction or constriction of the blood vessels, resulting in a decrease in oxygen or nutrient delivery to the organ or tissue. Ischaemia is a common cause of tissue damage and it can lead to tissue death, a condition known as infarction. Ischaemia is a serious medical condition and can be caused by diseases such as atherosclerosis, where fatty deposits accumulate in the walls of the blood vessels, leading to narrowing of the vessels. It can also be caused by trauma or vigorous activity that can lead to constriction of the blood vessels. Treatment of ischaemia includes medication to open up the blocked vessels, and in more serious cases, surgery may be used. It is important to recognize ischaemia and seek medical attention promptly, as timely treatment can help to prevent or minimize tissue damage or death.
