Interventricular

septal defect Interventricular septal defect (IVSD) is a congenital heart defect in which the wall (septum) between the two lower chambers of the heart (ventricles) is missing or malformed. This can lead to an abnormal flow of blood between the two ventricles, which can cause the heart to strain and shorter life expectancy. IVSD can affect people of all ages and is usually detected through use of an echocardiogram, cardiac MRI, or other imaging techniques. In some cases, treatment is not necessary, but in others, surgery or medication may be required to correct the defect and prevent complications. Early diagnosis and managing treatment are important to improve quality of life and prevent other health problems.
