Interauricular

septum The interauricular septum is a thin membrane that divides the two auricles (or atria) of the human heart. It is an important part of the heart's anatomy, as it helps to prevent the mixing of oxygenated and deoxygenated blood. This helps to ensure that the oxygenated blood is sent to the rest of the body, while the deoxygenated blood is sent to the lungs for re-oxygenation. The interauricular septum also contributes to the maintenance of a regular heart beat. Its presence is especially important in those with congenital heart defects, as it helps to keep the left and right sides of the heart separate.
