Cardiovascular Diseases
Cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) include a range of conditions that affect the heart and/or the blood vessels. Symptoms can range from chest pain to shortness of breath, but many CVDs are silent - meaning people experience no symptoms. CVDs are the leading cause of death globally and are associated with a poorer quality of life. Risk factors for developing CVDs include diabetes, high blood pressure, smoking, obesity, and physical inactivity. Treatments for CVDs can include lifestyle changes such as exercise, balanced diet, and quitting smoking, as well as medications and surgery. Early screening and disease management can reduce the risk of CVDs and improve outcomes for those affected.
