Cardiomyopathies
Cardiomyopathies are diseases of the heart muscle. They lead to the heart muscle becoming weakened, stretched, or thickened, and can affect the heart's ability to pump blood effectively. The three main types of cardiomyopathy are dilated, hypertrophic, and restrictive. They are associated with a variety of causes, such as genetic mutations, infections, or other conditions. Treatment for cardiomyopathy usually involves medications, lifestyle changes, and possibly surgery. It is important to recognize the signs and symptoms of cardiomyopathy, as early diagnosis and treatment can reduce the risk of serious complications such as heart failure, arrhythmias, and sudden cardiac arrest.
