Cad

mium Cadmium is a chemical element with the symbol Cd and atomic number 48. As a soft, silvery-white metal, cadmium is a post-transition metal primarily used in the production of batteries, pigments, coatings, and plastics. It is considered a toxic heavy metal that is released into the environment through industrial activities such as mining and smelting. Cadmium is also used to produce semiconductors, and its compounds are used in the manufacture of solar cells and rechargeable nickel-cadmium batteries. In addition, cadmium is used in the production of electroplating, paints, and protective coatings, as well as in the production of certain alloys and fertilizers. As it accumulates in the human body, cadmium can cause kidney and bone damage, and is known to be a carcinogen. It is important for businesses and industries that handle cadmium to ensure that appropriate safety measures are in place to protect employees and the surrounding environment.
