Population Health
Population health is an interdisciplinary field of public health that looks at health and disease in population groups, and focuses on the health and well-being of the entire population and their underlying determinants. It is concerned with the prevention of health problems and the promotion of health for individuals and for communities. Population health encompasses a range of activities, both quantitative and qualitative, including monitoring health outcomes, researching the factors that influence health outcomes, identifying areas of need, developing and evaluating health promotion programs, and developing and assessing approaches to population health management. Population health interventions are those that have the potential to have widespread and long-term impacts on health and address underlying determinants of health. Examples of such interventions include policy interventions, health promotion campaigns, and population-based preventive care. This approach to population health is important for advancing public health initiatives to reduce health disparities and improve overall health outcomes.
