Rheumatoid Arthritis
Rheumatoid arthritis is a long-term autoimmune disorder that causes inflammation of the joints, which leads to painful and swollen joints. It is caused when the body’s immune system mistakenly attacks its own healthy joint tissue. Symptoms include joint stiffness, swelling, reduced range of motion and pain. In some cases, it can also lead to joint deformity, inflammation of the lungs and other organs, and fatigue. Treatment usually includes medications, physical and occupational therapy, lifestyle changes and supportive care. Early and aggressive treatment can help reduce the impact of rheumatoid arthritis and improve the quality of life of those affected.
